Dr. Doug Arion

Dr. Arion is the Donald D. Hedberg Distinguished Professorof Entrepreneurial Studies at Carthage College, and developed and directs the nation's first undergraduate integrated entrepreneurship education program. He is also a Professor in the Department of Physics, teaching courses in physics and astrophysics, overseeing the research laboratory, and directing student research. Dr. Arion specializes in the development of diagnostic instrumentation, research in astrophysics and plasma physics, and technology business development. In addition to his positions with Carthage, Dr. Arion is the Senior Program Manager for the Center for Advanced Technology and Innovation. In this position he supports corporate strategic planning, technology and product ideation, financial planning and modeling, and business plan development. He also helped found and is on the Board of Directors of the Pennies from Heaven Angel Investor group in Kenosha, WI. Prior to Carthage, Dr. Arion was at Science Applications International Corporation for 15 years, where he served as the head of the applied Physics and Engineering Division. He was a key experimenter in the underground nuclear test program, conducting radiation effects experiments on a wide range of strategic systems, and led the growth of the division by a factor of 10 in less than four years. He directed the development and construction of extensive experimental systems, including space telescope optics and high precision structural measuring systems. He holds a patent on the Blast Induced Emission of Radiation Gage, developed to measure time-resolved pressures in high explosive environments, and has pending a patent on a fiber-optic neural probe.
